Odaily Planet Daily reports: On July 23, the European Union adopted its 21st round of sanctions against Russia, extending the transaction ban to 14 cryptocurrency service platforms located in Georgia, Panama, the UAE, the Marshall Islands, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus, and introducing four new sanctions targeting the A7 Russian ruble network.
The new rules, effective August 25, prohibit Russian and Belarusian citizens from holding, controlling, or serving in positions at MiCA-compliant crypto asset service providers within the EU, extending to services such as consulting, portfolio management, and facilitating crypto asset transfers on behalf of clients. The rules also empower the EU to impose a comprehensive ban on crypto transactions with third countries that fail to prevent circumvention of sanctions. Additionally, the regulations stipulate that the currently empty list of countries “shall include only those third countries deemed by the Council of the EU to have systematically and persistently failed to prevent crypto asset service providers or platforms for crypto asset transactions and transfers from operating.” (Bitcoin.com News)
