Coinbase has renamed the Base App back to Coinbase Wallet after a year-long social experiment, refocusing on multichain trading and Ethereum news. The wallet now supports over 10 networks and offers perpetual futures and tokenized stocks. New token listings are available for users to trade without KYC checks, though some features are regionally limited. The app remains self-custodial and acts as a testbed for new products. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called the social experiment unsuccessful.

Coinbase is rebranding the Base App back to Coinbase Wallet after just over a year. Coinbase said the app had evolved into a broader multichain trading platform. The wallet supports more than 10 networks. Those networks include Base, Robinhood Chain, Solana, Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Monad, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Avalanche. The wallet offers perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid. It also supports prediction markets and tokenized stocks. Ryan Kass, Coinbase's Head of Coinbase Wallet Product, said the wallet will serve as a test kitchen for products and assets that may not be available through Coinbase's centralized exchange. The wallet also supports long-tail assets and aims to add new chains as they launch. Users can follow traders on the wallet. Coinbase says users can download the app and start trading within minutes without know-your-customer checks. Some features remain subject to geographic restrictions, according to Coinbase's website. The wallet remains self-custodial, so users retain their own keys. Kass said assets become available by default once they are minted on a supported chain. He said Coinbase Wallet detects and hides scam or malicious tokens. New markets and asset classes undergo product and compliance reviews before appearing in the app. Coinbase monetizes the wallet through trading and product fees. Coinbase declined to disclose more details about its fee structure. Coinbase also declined to disclose whether the shift toward trading increased the app's user numbers. Coinbase renamed Coinbase Wallet as the Base App in July 2025. The Base App combined social networking, mini-apps, messaging, payments, and trading. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said in March that the social experiment "didn't quite work." Armstrong also said the app had pivoted toward trading and a self-custodial version of Coinbase's main app. Base creator Jesse Pollak later handed leadership of the app to Jordan "Cobie" Fish. Pollak said the product would become less Base-centric as it expanded into an all-encompassing trading platform. Robinhood Chain and Monad were new additions compared with the networks previously supported by the Base App. Kass said Base remains central to Coinbase Wallet.
