BlockBeats report, June 12: Coinbase announced the launch of Coinbase for Agents, allowing users to directly connect AI agents to their Coinbase accounts, enabling the agents to trade, pay, and execute workflows on their behalf within user-defined limits. The product is currently available in MCP and CLI formats. Users can connect popular AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude to their Coinbase accounts, granting the agents both financial reasoning and execution capabilities. AI agents can execute spot and derivatives trading within user authorization and perform operations such as portfolio rebalancing, limit order trading, and capital efficiency management based on user-defined goals.
In the future, Coinbase for Agents will expand to include trading in stocks, index funds, prediction markets, and commodities. Coinbase also plans to enable x402 support for this product, allowing agents to pay for proprietary data, computing resources, statistics, images, and services. Regarding security controls, Coinbase states that users can configure agents to operate within separate portfolios, preventing access to other holdings; future updates will also support setting specific rules such as maximum trade sizes, permitted interaction targets, and spending limits. Coinbase notes that all related payments will be subject to its existing transaction monitoring and KYT checks.
Additionally, Coinbase stated that Coinbase Advisor has been integrated into the Coinbase app to provide users with direct advice and guidance. Coinbase Advisor is a financial advisor registered with the SEC/CFTC. Coinbase noted that Coinbase for Agents, Coinbase Advisor, and Coinbase Payments form the starting point of its agent-based financial products for consumers and businesses.
