DFINITY founder @dominic_w reports that the Internet Computer withstood a widespread, AI-enabled attack involving hundreds of malicious canisters and malformed WebAssembly modules. No publicly declared outage. No disclosed breach. No reported consensus failure. No disclosed loss of user funds. The network kept operating. internet-computer:native was engineered to execute untrusted code under adversarial conditions. Wasm modules undergo protocol-level validation with enforced limits on module size, functions, globals, exports and computational complexity. Canisters isolate application code and persistent state. Execution is bounded by instruction, memory and resource limits, while cycles impose an economic cost on computation and storage. Execution and state are replicated across independent subnet nodes, which must agree on deterministic results through Byzantine-fault-tolerant consensus. A malicious canister cannot simply seize control of another canister, rewrite replicated state or override network consensus. internet-computer:native’s subnet architecture distributes workloads, limits the reach of failures and enables horizontal scaling—creating a decentralized computing environment designed to contain hostile code rather than trust it. A detailed technical postmortem is still required to confirm the affected subnets, malformed modules, attack duration, resource impact, controls activated and evidence supporting AI attribution.
