Over 99% of Bitcoin Capital Is Still Idle Bitcoin has a market cap of roughly $1.55T, yet only around $7–10B is currently earning yield through BTCFi, staking/restaking-style products and other yield strategies. That means less than 1% of Bitcoin’s value is being put to work. For comparison: Ethereum: ~34–35% staked Solana: ~68–70% staked Cardano: ~56–57% staked The comparison isn’t perfect. Unlike PoS networks, Bitcoin wasn’t designed around native staking, and a large part of its value proposition comes from simply holding a scarce, highly liquid asset. But that’s exactly why the gap is interesting. Even a small shift from passive BTC into BTCFi, lending, restaking and Bitcoin L2s could represent tens of billions of dollars in new productive capital. Bitcoin doesn’t need 50% of its supply to become productive. Moving from less than 1% to just a few percent would already be a major shift for the ecosystem.
