The vulnerability at @COLDCARDwallet continues to expand, with affected funds exceeding $88 million. Many people assume hardware wallets are absolutely secure. In reality, hardware wallets merely shift risk from the “online environment” to the “device, firmware, randomness, and supply chain.” When problems occur, there is no customer support on-chain. If the private key is generated incorrectly, all subsequent actions only delay the inevitable explosion. For large assets, the most important thing isn’t which wallet you buy. It’s not placing all your security assumptions on a single device and a single process.
