Senate Republicans Release Updated CLARITY Act Text, Ethics Rules Spark Bipartisan Dispute According to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, Senate Republicans released an updated CLARITY Act text, with the ethics package becoming the main point of dispute. The proposal would bar the president, vice president, members of Congress, federal judges and other covered officials from issuing or sponsoring paid digital assets while in office, and require them to sell crypto holdings or place them in a blind trust. It would also give the Department of Justice civil enforcement authority over violations, a move opposed by Democrats. The updated text keeps previous BRCA, stablecoin rewards and self-custody provisions, while adding new crypto crime enforcement measures, including more investigation funding, law enforcement training and a cyber center targeting nation-state threats.
