Beginner’s Guide to RWAs Through Robinhood RWAs are one of the biggest narrative in crypto over the next few years. Here’s everything you need to know: What are RWAs? RWA stands for Real World Assets. Instead of trading assets that only exist on the blockchain, RWAs bring traditional financial assets onchain. That includes things like: Stocks ETFs Treasury Bills Bonds Real Estate Private Equity Commodities Money Market Funds Why is Robinhood important? They want to bring traditional finance directly onto blockchain rails. Their new Layer 2, Robinhood Chain, is built on Arbitrum and focuses almost entirely on tokenized financial assets. Robinhood already has millions of retail users. Robinhood actually has two different products: - Classic Stock Tokens These live inside the Robinhood Europe app. You can buy fractions starting from €1 and trade thousands of US stocks and ETFs directly from Europe. Robinhood currently charges a 0.10% FX conversion fee since the assets are priced in USD while Europeans trade in EUR. Trading currently runs almost 24/5, from Monday morning until Saturday morning European time. - Stock Tokens This is where things become much more interesting. Robinhood also launched fully onchain Stock Tokens. These are ERC-20 tokens that live on Robinhood Chain. You can hold them inside your own wallet. Eventually they’ll interact with lending protocols. Wait… do I actually own Apple shares? No. This is probably the biggest misconception around RWAs today. Buying Robinhood Stock Tokens does NOT make you a shareholder. Robinhood says this very clearly. These products give you economic exposure. They do NOT give you legal ownership. They do NOT give you voting rights. They do NOT make you a shareholder of Apple. Or Nvidia, Or Tesla, Or any other company. Robinhood Chain is the infrastructure It’s designed specifically around RWAs. The chain uses: - Ethereum security through Arbitrum - ETH as gas - Chainlink price feeds - Uniswap liquidity - ERC-20 tokenized assets - 100ms block times - DeFi integrations - Lending infrastructure - AI agent support Everything is built around making traditional financial assets behave like crypto assets. What should you actually watch? Watch adoption. Watch whether more assets get tokenized. Watch TVL on Robinhood Chain. Watch DeFi integrations. Watch regulation. Because the winners in the RWA sector will be determined by who builds the biggest financial ecosystem around those assets. Robinhood is clearly trying to become one of those platforms.
