X is testing a new crypto feature that allows users to see trading buttons next to price charts in posts, potentially for BTC, ETH, XRP, and other altcoins to watch. The feature is not yet live, and no official launch date has been announced. Users may be redirected to external platforms for trading, similar to X’s current setup in Canada via Wealthsimple. Supported assets could include BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, ZEC, and XLM, though the list remains unconfirmed. This rollout coincides with the launch of X Money, part of Elon Musk’s broader app strategy. BTC price movements may influence how the feature is received.
CoinDesk reports:

X is testing a new crypto feature that may allow users to see trading buttons next to price charts within posts, enabling them to buy or sell assets like BTC, ETH, and XRP directly. This feature has not yet been officially launched, and a release date has not been determined.

X or drive traffic to external platforms

Former X product lead Nikita Bier said this button could be added to cryptocurrency chart pages, building on X’s existing Smart Cashtags feature. Cashtags currently allow users to click on stock or cryptocurrency ticker symbols to view corresponding market data.

Bier previously mentioned that users might eventually complete transactions directly within the timeline. However, he later added that X itself will not process actual transactions or act as a broker. More likely, users will click a button and be redirected to an external platform to place their orders.

The list of supported assets has not been disclosed.

This is similar to X’s current approach in Canada, where local users are redirected to Wealthsimple to complete the actual trade after clicking on a stock or crypto asset ticker.

Currently, X has not yet released a complete list of supported assets or blockchain networks. Bier mentioned Solana and Ethereum. Previously, Solana described this functionality as supporting Solana ecosystem tokens through Dialect, Helius, Jupiter, and Birdeye.

  • Potential supported assets include BTC, ETH, and SOL.
  • The report also mentioned XRP, ZEC, and XLM.
  • However, the above list is not an official announcement from X.

X Money is advancing in sync

This encryption feature test coincides with the rollout of X Money, Musk’s payment product within his “super app” vision, which began rolling out to Premium and Premium+ users in the U.S. on July 27.

  • Up to 6% annualized yield
  • 3% Cashback with Visa Card
  • Up to $10 million FDIC insurance

Related banking services are provided by Cross River. However, X Money’s current product page does not mention cryptocurrency assets, Bitcoin, stock trading, or brokerage services.

If X ultimately embeds the crypto trading entry directly into post charts, the path from users seeing token information to proceeding with an order will be further shortened. This could lead to tighter integration between social content, price displays, and trading traffic.
