Huo Xing Finance reports that U.S. Bank (a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp), the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States, has successfully completed a real-time cross-border payment test using its proprietary USD stablecoin, USBDC, via the Stellar blockchain between its North American and European entities. As one of the first bank-issued stablecoins deployed on a public blockchain, USBDC aims to bridge gaps in the global banking system through its 24/7 transaction capability. The pilot verified key functions including USBDC minting, payment redemption, freezing, and recovery, while also testing the bank’s internally developed digital asset platform—the foundational infrastructure for issuing, managing, and transferring tokenized assets—to enable seamless integration between traditional banking systems and blockchain networks. Gunjan Kedia, Chairman and CEO of U.S. Bank, stated that this real-time pilot demonstrates the bank’s ability to accelerate global cash management and fund flows. The test was conducted under a strategic partnership with the Stellar Development Foundation, with future use cases including liquidity management, collateral transfer, and cross-border treasury operations. As global regulation of stablecoins advances, banks are accelerating their entry into the space: last week, 21 financial institutions—including Bank of America, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, and UBS—announced plans to form a company to issue a stablecoin, targeting a launch of the USD token in the first half of 2027.
