ChainCatcher report: Tether’s tokenized gold product, Tether Gold (XAUt), officially launched on BNB Chain on March 26, bringing physical gold assets directly into the on-chain ecosystem. Each XAUt token is backed by one troy ounce of physical gold, stored in Swiss vaults as London Good Delivery bars, with a total reserve of approximately 1,800 bars exceeding 22,100 kilograms, accompanied by publicly verifiable reserve proofs. This launch enables users to gain direct exposure to physical gold within the BNB Chain ecosystem without undergoing the traditional burdens of custody, storage, premiums, or cumbersome settlement processes. XAUt seamlessly integrates with trading, DeFi, and other on-chain activities without requiring funds to be moved off-chain. For developers, XAUt offers an asset with lower correlation to the crypto market, facilitating more balanced product design. Additionally, Tether enables liquidity interoperability of XAUt across more than 12 blockchains via its USDt0 cross-chain network, further enhancing issuance, transfer, and settlement efficiency. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that this initiative aims to integrate gold into the modern digital financial system, granting it instant settlement and global liquidity. This integration further solidifies BNB Chain’s leadership in the real-world assets (RWA) space. Currently, BNB Chain hosts approximately $3.2 billion in RWA assets, ranking as the second-largest RWA public blockchain globally, with over 41,000 holders and a net inflow of approximately $845 million over the past 30 days. These figures reflect genuine usage—assets are actively held, traded, and deeply integrated throughout the ecosystem, rather than sitting idle after issuance. The addition of XAUt marks a pivotal shift in RWA from “issue and store” to truly usable, composable on-chain assets.
