As reported by Coindesk, Solana’s upcoming Alpenglow upgrade is expected to significantly reduce the cost of running a validator by lowering vote fees, which currently account for 80% of the monthly expenses. Michael Repetny, CEO of Marinade Labs, highlighted that the update could make it more accessible for new validators to join the network, potentially improving decentralization. The upgrade is also expected to increase network bandwidth and reduce latency, which may lead to more efficient block packing and less malicious MEV activity. However, higher hardware demands could pose a challenge for validators.
