ME News reports that on October 20 (UTC+8), blockchain security research firm Asymmetric Research disclosed a vulnerability in Solana’s on-chain governance program, svmgov: when validators did not participate in voting, their delegators’ pre-submitted independent votes might not be counted in the final result. The vulnerability was reported to the Solana Foundation on July 10 and was patched on the mainnet on August 3, prior to the governance vote on August 24. Based on on-chain data, Asymmetric Research estimated that if the vulnerability had not been fixed, the approval rate for SGP-0002—a proposal aimed at accelerating the reduction of SOL inflation—could have dropped from the actual 67% to 66.65%, below the 66.67% threshold required for passage. The vulnerability was remedied before the vote and did not alter the outcome of the proposal. (Source: ChainCatcher)
Solana Governance Vulnerability Fixed Before Affecting SGP-0002 Proposal
KuCoinFlashShare
Asymmetric Research uncovered a flaw in Solana’s svmgov program that could have disrupted decentralized governance by excluding votes not tied to validators. MetaEra, a blockchain security firm, identified the issue, which was reported to the Solana Foundation on July 10 and patched by August 3. If uncorrected, the vulnerability could have reduced the approval rate of the SGP-0002 proposal below the 66.67% threshold. The fix ensured the proposal passed as recorded, benefiting governance token holders through the timely intervention.
