Societe Generale’s EURCV, a euro-backed stablecoin, added $5.6 million to its market cap, now valued between $140 million and $180 million. EURCV, issued by SG Forge, is 1:1 euro-backed and runs on Ethereum and Solana. It is MiCA-compliant and supports DeFi integrations. The token saw $11.6 million in weekly inflows in late August and is listed on Bitstamp. As the digital asset market grows, EURCV ranks second behind Circle’s EURC. The fear and greed index remains a key indicator for traders watching stablecoin movements.

While the stablecoin conversation in crypto tends to revolve around Tether and Circle’s dollar-pegged tokens, a quieter race is playing out on the other side of the Atlantic. Societe Generale’s euro stablecoin EURCV just added roughly $5.6 million to its market cap, making it the second-fastest-growing euro stablecoin by that measure.

What EURCV actually is

EURCV, short for EUR CoinVertible, is a euro-pegged stablecoin issued by SG Forge, the digital assets subsidiary of French banking heavyweight Societe Generale. The token launched in 2023, making it one of the first bank-issued euro digital assets to hit the market.

It’s a 1:1 euro-backed electronic money token, meaning every EURCV in circulation is supposedly matched by an equivalent euro sitting in reserve. The token is deployed on both Ethereum and Solana, giving it access to two of the largest smart contract ecosystems. It also integrates with platforms like Morpho’s yield-generating vaults, which means holders can put their euro stablecoins to work in DeFi rather than letting them sit idle.

EURCV carries full compliance with MiCA, the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation. For institutions that need to check regulatory boxes before touching anything crypto-adjacent, that compliance is essentially the product’s entire selling point.

The euro stablecoin landscape

EURCV’s market capitalization currently sits in the range of $140 million to $180 million. That places it as the second-largest euro stablecoin, trailing Circle’s EURC, which dominates the category.

The total market cap for all euro-denominated stablecoins is estimated between $650 million and $780 million. To put that in perspective, Tether’s USDT alone commands a market cap north of $100 billion.

In late August, the token saw weekly inflows of $11.6 million. Its circulating supply sits between 130 million and 156 million tokens. Schuman Financial’s EUROP is another MiCA-compliant contender vying for market share. Exchange listings have helped boost visibility. EURCV is available on Bitstamp, among other platforms.

Why banks are betting on stablecoins

EURCV is designed for use cases that include cross-border payments, settlement of tokenized assets, and integration into DeFi platforms. As dollar-denominated stablecoins have become essential plumbing for crypto markets, European regulators and institutions have grown uncomfortable with the idea that euro-zone digital finance might end up running entirely on dollar rails. EURCV and its competitors represent an attempt to build euro-native alternatives.

The risk is that bank-issued stablecoins carry the baggage of the institutions behind them. Societe Generale, like any major bank, is subject to its own regulatory pressures, capital requirements, and reputational considerations. If something goes sideways at the parent company, the stablecoin subsidiary doesn’t exist in a separate universe.
