According to ME News, on June 6 (UTC+8), security engineer Taylor Hornby, after discovering a critical vulnerability in Zcash’s Orchard privacy pool using Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 AI model, stated his intention to include privacy coins such as Monero in his next round of audits. The vulnerability, discovered by Hornby on May 29, allowed attackers to mint unlimited, undetectable counterfeit ZEC and had existed for nearly a year. Following the disclosure, Zcash’s price dropped 38% within 24 hours. Hornby emphasized that he chose to report the vulnerability rather than exploit it because the development team felt like “family,” and he couldn’t bring himself to betray them. He is currently employed by Shielded Labs to conduct protocol vulnerability research and plans to apply for funding from the Zcash holder fund to support future audits. (Source: PANews)
