CoinDesk reports:

Samsung Electronics announced plans to launch a USDC stablecoin transfer service through Samsung Wallet in late October, enabling eligible U.S. Galaxy users to send funds to crypto wallets and overseas bank accounts.

According to the company’s October 7 announcement, the service will launch during the last week of October on 82 million Galaxy devices in the U.S. and support transfers to international bank accounts in over 60 countries.

Eligible users can send USDC to compatible crypto wallets without paying transfer fees to Samsung. Bank account recipients can receive funds directly in their local currency without needing to hold cryptocurrency or install a wallet.

Samsung stated that it is collaborating with Bastion and Coinbase to operate the service, with Solana and Sui also serving as blockchain infrastructure partners supporting this launch.

Samsung Wallet will support transferring USDC to more than 60 countries.

Under this new service, eligible Galaxy users can directly transfer stablecoins through Samsung Wallet without needing to install a separate cryptocurrency app.

Samsung stated that this integration eliminates the need for users to manage their own private keys. USDC will be the first supported stablecoin and will appear as the default USD stablecoin when users select the "Buy Stablecoin" option.

For transfers to compatible crypto wallets, the company expects transactions to complete within seconds and does not charge users any transfer fees. The receiving wallet or exchange may charge separate fees, and processing times may vary depending on network conditions.

International transfers to eligible bank accounts follow different procedures. Recipients in over 60 supported countries can deposit funds directly in their local currency, though applicable fees may vary by destination.

This service will include fiat on-ramp and off-ramp channels, allowing eligible users to convert between traditional currencies and USDC via supported payment infrastructures.

“Cross-border remittances should be as convenient as using a wallet already in your phone,” said Woncheol Chai, Executive Vice President and Head of the Samsung Digital Wallet team.

Chai said the company wants Galaxy users to be able to use USDC transfers without installing another app or managing private keys.

Samsung has not yet released a complete list of supported destination countries or detailed fees for bank transfer services.

Coinbase Prime and Bastion will be responsible for USDC custody.

In terms of custody arrangements, Samsung has selected Bastion to provide the cross-border payment framework, while Coinbase will serve as its official sub-custodian.

Bastion is a licensed provider of stablecoin infrastructure and custody services regulated by U.S. financial authorities. USDC held through the new Samsung Wallet service will be custodied by Coinbase Prime Vault.

The transaction will require biometric authentication on a registered Galaxy device as a security check before the user initiates a transfer.

Samsung Next, a subsidiary of Samsung, was also previously an investor in Bastion. In September 2025, Coinbase Ventures led Bastion’s $14.6 million funding round, with additional participation from Samsung Next, Sony Innovation Fund, a16z crypto, and Hashed. Following this round, Bastion’s total funding exceeded $40 million.

In addition to the custodial arrangement, Samsung has designated Solana and Sui as technology partners for the blockchain infrastructure supporting this service.

Lily Liu, Chair of the Solana Foundation, said that Samsung’s integration is a step toward enabling stablecoins for everyday transfers.

“This level of adoption is exactly what we aimed to achieve with Solana,” Liu said, adding that stablecoins are becoming a way for people to transfer funds beyond traditional cryptocurrency applications.

Alec Lovett, Head of Infrastructure Products at Coinbase, described Samsung’s global reach as a significant distribution milestone for USDC.

Samsung and Coinbase expand their existing partnership

Samsung's latest announcement continues its previous collaboration with Coinbase, during which both parties introduced cryptocurrency services to the Galaxy ecosystem.

In October 2025, crypto.news reported that Samsung Wallet has integrated Coinbase services for approximately 75 million U.S. Galaxy users.

Eligible customers can use cryptocurrency trading and staking services through Samsung Wallet and receive a discount on their Coinbase One subscription.

Previously, Samsung Pay was available as a payment option in the Coinbase app, allowing eligible users to fund their trading accounts through this mobile payment service.

Samsung later announced plans to natively support stablecoins at the Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2026, but at the time, the company had not specified which stablecoins would be supported, the launch timeline, or infrastructure partners.

Samsung is also advancing other developments related to cryptocurrency wallet technology.

On October 6, it was reported that the company filed a U.S. patent application describing a digital asset wallet system that authorizes transactions using smart contracts without requiring individual devices to directly handle private keys.

The proposed technology would allow smartphones, computers, wearable devices, and home appliances to participate in managing a shared digital asset wallet. Samsung has not confirmed whether this patent system will be incorporated into any commercial products.

Samsung plans stablecoin payments and international expansion

In addition to transfers, Samsung is also considering supporting stablecoin payments for online merchants and physical stores.

Under this proposed feature, eligible Galaxy users may soon be able to complete purchases by tapping their device at retail locations.

The company has not yet provided a launch date for these payment features and they are still under consideration.

Future geographic expansion will depend on regulatory requirements in each market, and the initial stablecoin services will be available only to eligible U.S.-based Galaxy users.

Samsung stated that its October launch plan is contingent on the establishment of a regulatory framework for stablecoins in the United States. The company has not yet announced plans to launch its own stablecoin via Samsung Wallet.

USDC will remain the first supported asset; details regarding eligible devices, supported destinations, and additional services will be announced closer to launch.
