Railway, a cloud deployment platform, urged users to reset credentials after a security breach disclosed on Oct. 21. Encrypted environment variables, including API and database keys, may have been exposed. The company invalidated all API tokens on Oct. 22 and advised customers to replace secrets and inspect logs. On-chain news sources like Tayvano reported a $371,000 crypto theft across 19 EVM chains, though Railway has not confirmed the link. Railway halted deployments during the investigation, causing delays. Deployment wait times improved by 12:30 UTC, with partial service restored. Cloud users were directed to deactivate exposed keys. The incident adds to ongoing AI + crypto news about infrastructure security.

Railway, a cloud deployment platform, urged every user to replace stored secrets following a security disclosure on Oct. 21. Railway said an attacker may have accessed encrypted environment variables belonging to customers and read some contents. Railway said the variables could hold API keys, database credentials and private registry credentials.

Railway's initial assessment suggested that only some users might be affected. However, Railway advised every customer to replace stored variables and credentials immediately and examine service logs for unusual activity. Railway has disclosed neither the underlying cause nor the number of affected customers.

Railway believes the incident belongs to a broader campaign targeting platform companies to compromise AI inference providers. Railway said upstream providers had been notified to revoke keys as a precaution. Railway said affected customers would receive emails as the company confirmed affected accounts.

On-chain investigator Tayvano separately alleged cryptocurrency theft involving keys held on Railway. Tayvano estimated losses at roughly $371,000 across at least 19 EVM chains. Tayvano also identified an address as belonging to the alleged attacker. Railway has not confirmed the alleged theft, any link to the security incident or the $371,000 estimate.

Crypto teams operating applications on Railway should examine the credentials stored by those applications and identify the services accessible through those credentials. Railway's recommendation includes every environment variable and API key stored on the platform, together with private registry credentials.

Railway initially suspended all deployments during the investigation, leaving customers unable to release new application versions. The suspension hindered deployment of replacement credentials. Customers also faced the separate task of revoking potentially exposed credentials through the services that issued those credentials.

Railway said at 04:17 UTC on Oct. 22 that every Railway API token had been invalidated. Railway instructed customers integrating with the public API through those tokens to create replacements. Railway said at 12:30 UTC on Oct. 22 that deployment waits were improving, with most queued deployments beginning sooner. Pro and Enterprise workspaces could run builds, while Railway continued restoring access for Hobby, Free and Trial. Some deployments remained delayed.

Railway's AWS guidance dated Oct. 22 advises customers to deactivate potentially exposed access keys, deploy replacements and inspect CloudTrail and billing for unauthorized activity. Railway's Google Cloud guidance likewise advises disabling potentially exposed service-account keys, replacing those keys and examining Cloud Audit Logs and billing. The Google Cloud guidance warns that short-lived tokens previously generated from a disabled key may stay valid for up to an hour.
