Pump.fun launched pre-IPO tokens for OpenAI, Polymarket, and others, triggering an 8% increase in the PUMP price. The platform now supports custom trading pairs using pre-IPO tokens as quote assets. With 17.2% of PUMP’s fixed supply burned, its price prediction appeal has been strengthened. These tokens are restricted to U.S. residents due to SEC regulations. Vitalik Buterin and Michael Egorov have expressed concerns. Discussions around Bitcoin price predictions remain active amid broader market volatility.
CoinDesk reports:

The Solana ecosystem crypto launchpad, Pump.fun, has launched pre-IPO tokens to track blue-chip private companies with high growth potential prior to their public listing.

The list includes OpenAI, Anthropic, Polymarket, Kalshi, and Neuralink.

Driven by this development, PUMP rose 8%, but these pre-IPO tokens remain in an early, highly volatile stage.

Pump.fun has officially launched tokens for tracking the market capitalization and sentiment of major companies prior to their initial public offerings (IPOs).

This feature is powered by @PreStocks and initially includes pre-IPO assets paired with meme coins. Previously, issuing meme coins on this platform required SOL or USDC as the underlying quote asset. This stock integration means meme coins will now use specific pre-IPO tracking tokens as quote assets, hence the term “Custom Pairs.”

This launch includes eight initial companies, categorized as follows:

  • AI companies—including OpenAI and Anthropic.
  • Prediction market companies—including Polymarket and Kalshi.
  • Robotics company Figure AI falls into this category, developing autonomous, general-purpose humanoid robots.
  • Neuralink, another company owned by Elon Musk, is also among them.
  • Defense technology contractor—Anduril, which manufactures autonomous military weapons, falls into this category.
  • Health company Oura, which produces a biometric smart ring tracker, falls into this category.

For Pump.fun, this development drove its token PUMP up 8.41% over the past 24 hours to $0.004475.

This price increase is attributed to the newly launched custom pair token, which will contribute trading fees to the ecosystem, thereby supporting its token buyback and burn mechanism.

By the end of October, the model had permanently burned 17.2% of the token’s fixed supply. Combined with increasing demand and project progress, this has enhanced the token’s value.

It is important to note that when the valuation of these synthetic assets surges to extreme levels (trillions of dollars), the platform’s total assets may still be significantly lower, resulting in a valuation disconnect.

In addition, these tokens are currently restricted for all U.S. citizens, as they are classified as synthetic derivatives. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently prohibited this category of assets when granting a five-year innovation exemption for tokenized stocks.

Outside the United States, users consider a 3% to 5% pre-IPO token fee to be a significant cost for short-term, high-frequency trading.

On the criticism side, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Curve founder Michael Egorov previously criticized this Solana launch platform, comparing it to a gambling den or casino.

On X, the community has raised questions about its liquidity issues and regulatory status, while others are looking forward to participating.
