Odaily Planet Daily reports that NVIDIA will provide £250 million worth of computing resources to the UK’s AI safety research community over the next five years, equivalent to approximately $50 million per year. Beneficiary institutions include the BOLD Lab led by the University of Oxford, the SOFAIR Lab led by UCL, and Imperial College London, with research covering secure agents, open model safety, and defense against real-world threats. The computing resources will be provided by local UK cloud partners; the specific service providers and commercial terms have not yet been finalized.
In addition, NVIDIA plans to invest in five UK startups: Boltz, a biomolecular AI model company; Foresight, an infrastructure risk prediction platform; Hiverge, an algorithm optimization AI engine; Prima Mente, a biologically based model company focused on neurodegenerative diseases; and Riverlane, a quantum error correction hardware and software company.
NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, stated that AI capabilities and safety must advance together, and that the UK’s world-class scientific rigor will enable this $250 million commitment to put accelerated computing in the hands of UK researchers. (Techfundingnews)
