According to ChainCatcher, citing an IDC report seen by Phoenix Tech from Reuters, NVIDIA’s market share in China’s data center AI chip market declined to 34% in the first half of 2026. IDC data shows that from January to June this year, NVIDIA shipped 678,000 AI accelerators in China, a 44% year-over-year decline. The report attributes the shift in market share to U.S. export controls restricting product supply and growing market share by domestic Chinese competitors. Of the 11 Chinese chipmakers tracked by IDC, nine reported year-over-year growth in shipments. Huawei’s AI accelerators reached 572,000 units in the first half of the year, up from over 300,000 units during the same period last year, accounting for 28% of the overall market. Alibaba’s chip design subsidiary, Pingtouge, held a 7% market share, Cambricon held 5%, Baidu’s Kunlun芯 held 4%, and Hygon Information held 3%. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has repeatedly criticized U.S. government export restrictions, stating that the policy has forced NVIDIA to cede a $50 billion AI chip market in China to Huawei. IDC did not specify which products contributed to the 34% market share or whether chips such as the B200 and B300 were included. As of publication, NVIDIA has not responded to requests for comment.
