IT Home, October 15 — During an interview with Bloomberg’s Emily Chang in London, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that NVIDIA would firmly cease supplying chips to any customers found to be developing unsafe or irresponsible artificial intelligence (AI) software.
He admitted that cutting off supply is still a "hypothetical issue," and that NVIDIA would certainly engage in in-depth communication and dialogue with relevant customers before taking extreme countermeasures such as supply cuts.
Huang added, “We do not operate other companies; our technology is general-purpose, so NVIDIA’s ability to judge or limit how other companies use our technology is very limited.”
Jensen Huang firmly rejected the suggestion by executives from companies like Anthropic that the entire industry should slow down AI development. He argued that current safety concerns are merely “growing pains” accompanying the industry’s rapid expansion, and that public anxiety about AI risks is somewhat exaggerated relative to reality. He is confident that AI software can be effectively managed and safely deployed, and that as young companies grow, their accountability and sense of responsibility will naturally mature over time.

In addressing specific pathways for AI security risks, Jensen Huang proposed a technical governance approach of “using AI to monitor AI.” He argued that the industry should not slow down out of fear, but rather accelerate the integration of prevention and monitoring technologies into AI systems, because “AI is itself the best monitoring tool.”
To fulfill this commitment, NVIDIA also announced it will donate $250 million in advanced computing power over the next five years to support leading UK academic institutions, including the University of Oxford, in conducting in-depth research on AI safety measures and agent control methods.
