The MoonPay project team has introduced PayBox, a payment vault and non-custodial wallet. The service allows users to carry out transactions without leaving the chat window with a chatbot.

To use PayBox’s capabilities, users need to connect it to an AI model via a dedicated connector on the official website. After that, they can make transactions using the chat window.

Available features include booking flights, swapping crypto assets, staking, online shopping, and much more. PayBox enables payments across any service that supports Coinbase’s x402 protocol.

After the relevant request, the chatbot generates a transaction, and the user confirms it. Information on the official website indicates that this process can be automated by setting limits in advance.

At this stage, only ChatGPT and Claude are available. Support for Gemini and Grok is expected within a month.

According to MoonPay Labs chief engineer Niraj Prasad, PayBox gives users something that did not exist before. Previously, agents could offer, for example, product options, but now that list includes payment itself.

Security — Key Priority

The project team emphasized that within the service, AI never has access to wallet keys, card details, or the client’s funds.

Keys, in particular, are protected using multi-party computation (MPC) combined with trusted execution environments (TEE). Neither MoonPay nor the AI agent can access the code or sign a transaction on their own.

At the core of the service is the infrastructure of Sodot — a company MoonPay acquired in 2026. It secures more than $50 billion in assets and over 10 million wallets for leading crypto companies.

As MoonPay explained, fraud in agent-based payments typically happens under one of three scenarios: key theft, card number leakage, or weaknesses in the system as a whole, which makes it possible to “break” it entirely.

PayBox is designed to address each of these vectors individually, MoonPay emphasized.
