ChainThink report: On October 12, market data showed Microsoft's stock reached its highest level in nearly a year, rising 0.8% on the day.
Microsoft plans to gradually increase the proportion of its self-developed AI chips in data centers to reduce dependence on NVIDIA GPUs, with future AI model requests primarily handled by the Maia chip architecture and several gigawatts of computing power deployed.
Microsoft has unveiled its third-generation AI accelerator chip, the Maia 300, scheduled for production in 2027. Each data center rack can accommodate 96 Maia 300 chips—twice the number of Maia 200 chips.
Compared to GPUs, it offers up to 7 times higher AI token processing per rack and approximately 40% higher token processing per megawatt.
Evercore ISI analysts expect the Maia chip to account for approximately 10% of Microsoft's AI chip spending by the first quarter of 2027.
