Ledger and Solana announced on Thursday that Ledger's new Atom device will ship with Solana's Seeker app preinstalled. The companies made the announcement at Ledger's Op3n conference in Paris. Reservations for Atom are open now, but neither company has given a price or shipping date.
Ledger describes Atom as a "signer" rather than a hardware wallet. Atom is an Android-powered touchscreen device equipped with a data-only eSIM and Ledger's Secure Element. Atom enables users to exchange encrypted messages with other Atom users and perform crypto transactions. Atom switches into a Ledger OS-powered Secure Mode for sensitive operations such as signing transactions and authorizing AI agent requests.
Atom has a 6.77-inch OLED display, a rear camera and a 4,000 mAh battery. Atom runs on a Qualcomm Dragonwing chip. A hardware privacy switch physically cuts power to Atom's camera and microphone. Atom runs the Android Open Source Project, the free, open version of Google's mobile operating system, alongside a Secure Element chip running Ledger OS. The press release says Atom's display and touch controls are physically isolated from Android. The press release says approvals in the Seeker app happen in Secure Mode, backed by the Secure Element.
Atom also runs third-party apps. Solana Mobile named Ledger as Solana Mobile's first hardware expansion partner. Seeker combines Solana Mobile's wallet with the Solana dapp Store, which lists more than 1,500 decentralized apps. The Seeker app will appear on Atom's home screen. Until now, the store was available on Solana Mobile's own Seeker phone. Ledger chief human agency officer Ian Rogers said Seeker will give Ledger users access to the Solana ecosystem without sacrificing security.
Solana Mobile began opening its software stack to other Android manufacturers in March. Samsung Wallet also recently added USDC transfers on Solana. Solana Mobile says Seeker has handled more than $13 billion in transaction volume. Solana Mobile says Seeker has handled 154 million transactions. Solana Mobile says the company has sold more than 200,000 devices across Seeker and the earlier Saga phone. The press release says hardware makers integrating the software stack can earn rewards in SKR, the Solana Mobile ecosystem's native token. SKR also rewards users and developers. Solana Mobile said existing Seeker phones will remain fully supported.
The press release says Atom will include anti-tampering and tamper-evident features covering both the packaging and the device. Those features will include ways to help detect whether Atom's enclosure has been opened. Atom will only be sold through Ledger's official site.
Ledger is investigating tampered devices in its reseller network linked to a suspected $87 million wallet drain. Ledger disclosed this week that Ledger's Donjon security team found an implant in a hardware wallet sold through Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. The implant captures recovery phrases during setup and sends the phrases out over LTE. Ledger asked resellers in six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong on Tuesday to remove Ledger devices from shelves.
