LakeSail has partnered with Oxide to deliver a secure, high-performance private cloud for AI, designed for cost-effective data infrastructure. The integration of Sail, LakeSail’s Rust-native compute engine, on Oxide’s platform delivers performance improvements of up to 10x and cost reductions of 98%. Sail supports Python, Iceberg, and Delta Lake without requiring application rewrites. Both open-source and commercial options are available. This AI and crypto update highlights infrastructure innovation amid evolving inflation data trends.
CoinDesk reports:

LakeSail announces a strategic partnership with Oxide Computer Company to help businesses modernize their data and AI infrastructure while maintaining security, performance, and cost control.

This partnership stems from Sail’s successful validation on the Oxide platform. Sail is an open-source, Rust-native, Spark-compatible computing engine launched by LakeSail, which has been running on Oxide’s integrated rack-scale cloud platform, establishing a proven foundation for secure, customer-controlled AI environments.

Oxide delivers a cloud-like experience within customers' data centers through an integrated platform and unified control plane. Its architecture includes a hardware root of trust and mechanisms for verifying the integrity of the software stack.

Sail retains the Spark API, SQL, and DataFrames while replacing the traditional JVM execution layer with a native Rust architecture. It supports Python, Apache Iceberg, and Delta Lake, enabling enterprises to modernize without rewriting existing applications.

LakeSail states that by eliminating the JVM execution layer, Sail reduces costs and performance bottlenecks associated with cluster startup, garbage collection, memory tuning, idle capacity, and over-provisioning. According to LakeSail, depending on workloads and configurations, Sail can achieve up to 10x better performance and up to 98% lower infrastructure costs compared to equivalent Spark and JVM-based deployments.

Enterprises can use Sail as open-source software or purchase the commercial LakeSail Platform to gain management, governance, security, and support capabilities.

Shehab Amin, Co-founder and CEO of LakeSail, said: “We believe that data processing and AI should be handled within a single engine, rather than two separate systems that customers must piece together. Combining Sail’s efficiency with Oxide’s customer-owned cloud infrastructure enables businesses to achieve greater freedom in building applications without increasing complexity or traditional JVM cost structures.”

Steve Tuck, Co-founder and CEO of Oxide Computer Company, said: “As data management and processing become increasingly critical in AI, we are excited to see LakeSail running on Oxide. Running LakeSail’s modern execution engine on Oxide’s on-premises Cloud Computer enables customers to gain insights from their data faster while maintaining control over where their data is stored.”
