According to BitMedia, Ken Chan, co-founder of decentralized trading platform Aevo, described cryptocurrencies as the world's largest 24/7 online casino and admitted he regrets wasting eight years of his life chasing libertarian ideals and the cypherpunk spirit. Chan stated that investors are blindly funding every public first-layer blockchain, trying to bet on the next Solana, Ethereum, or XRP, while the speculative mindset fuels inflated market caps for dozens of zombie blockchains. He expressed disappointment in his target audience and users, claiming he built a casino rather than a new financial system. In response, Pantera Capital's Mason Nystrom commented that if Chan sees crypto as a casino, he should walk away from the table, emphasizing that crypto is building a new financial system with diverse applications.
