A Solana meme coin named Dacity Coin rose 2,900% after the GTA 6 launch trailer featured a fictional coin with the same name. The token's market capitalization increased from $104,000 to $3.18 million in the hour after Thursday's trailer release. The trailer showed Dacity Coin branding on a plane for two seconds, with a man setting off a neon pink flare on the wing.
The token was created five days before the trailer, after Rockstar hacker Cyberleek leaked GTA 6 gameplay revealing Dacity Coin in the game. Only a comparatively small group of traders noticed the leaked reference. Dacity Coin launched on Solana launchpad Pump.fun on October 11 and reached a peak market capitalization of $1.14 million. The token's market capitalization fell to $144,700 over the following day and remained broadly unchanged until Thursday's rise. DEX Screener showed that 24 traders profited more than $10,000 from the token. DEX Screener showed that the top trader turned $1,912 into $44,000. Dacity Coin subsequently fell around 53% from the $3.18 million peak to a $1.5 million market capitalization.
The plane in the trailer displayed the words "DacityCoin AudaCity". Previously leaked footage showed GTA 6 protagonist Lucia skydiving with an AudaCity parachute. Leaked screenshots showed a parachute slogan beginning, "Quit your job. Sell your house." The GTA wiki says Lucia is asked to parachute as a stunt to advertise AudaCity and attract investment to Dacity Coin. If that account is correct, the game appears to satirize promotional stunts by meme coin creators. A man set himself on fire to promote a meme coin in 2024. Other promotional stunts included smoking drugs on livestream, pretending to be a dog and recklessly firing a pistol from a window.
Rumors over several years have suggested that GTA 6 would include cryptocurrencies. Theories included play-to-earn features, NFT-owned properties and a dedicated blockchain for the game. However, all those theories were unsubstantiated. Dacity Coin provides the first solid sign of cryptocurrency appearing in the upcoming game. The prominence of Dacity Coin in GTA 6 remains an open question for traders. A lasting role in the game could generate substantial profits for longer-term token holders, while a limited role could end the token's momentum.
Fortnite added a fictional cryptocurrency called Dill Bits in February 2025. Traders quickly launched a real Solana token with the same name, which reached a $4.78 million market capitalization before falling 96%. The token rose 2,700% again in April after Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney called the token a scam. Sweeney denied launching the token as traders speculated that Sweeney was secretly behind the project. The Dill Bits community interpreted the attention positively, despite Fortnite's storyline featuring a pickle villain named Big Dill running a cryptocurrency rug pull. DB subsequently fell 82% within days, with the decline also described as 82.3%. Epic Games said at the time that no real cryptocurrency or meme coin was associated with Fortnite or endorsed by Epic Games.
