Germany’s Sparkassen launched token launch news with crypto trading in its banking app on Monday, starting with five savings banks and charging €0.99 per order. The service, powered by DekaBank, allows customers to trade BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, and POL without a securities account. The German Savings Banks Association (DSGV) plans to onboard 30 to 40 more banks monthly, aiming to connect most interested Sparkassen by mid-2027. On-chain news activity is expected to rise as more users access the platform.

Germany’s Sparkassen opened crypto trading in its banking app on Monday, starting with five savings banks and priced at €0.99 per order.

The first five are Frankfurter Sparkasse, Taunus Sparkasse, Sparkasse Karlsruhe, Sparkasse Rottal-Inn and Niederrheinische Sparkasse RheinLippe. DekaBank, the securities house owned by the savings banks, runs the service under the name Krypto powered by Deka.

Moving on, Sparkasse customers can trade Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, Solana (SOL) and Polygon (POL) without a securities account, according to a report from Bloomingbit.

Each Sparkasse decides for itself whether and when to join. The German Savings Banks Association (DSGV) told the dpa news agency that 30 to 40 more banks should join every month. DSGV executive board member Joachim Schmalzl said the group aims to connect a large share of interested Sparkassen in the first half of 2027.

Deka Sets the Price

Deka’s price sheet, dated September 2026, sets no minimum order and caps each trade at €250,000. Every trade runs as a request for quote. Deka returns a binding price for a limited window, built from a market reference price plus a spread of its own. The sheet does not disclose that spread, and it lets Deka adjust pricing when volumes are large or volatility rises.

Moreover, Deka keeps the private keys in trust for customers in a shared omnibus wallet, and custody carries no fee. Withdrawals are free but can go only to addresses at four approved providers: Crypto Finance, Tangany, Bullish Europe, and Börse Stuttgart Digital Custody.

Börse Stuttgart Digital Custody, the last of those four, became the first German firm licensed under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) in January 2025. Börse Stuttgart also works with Deka on custody for the new service, the DSGV told dpa.

The savings banks will not advise customers on crypto or promote the service broadly. Customers who trade get an explicit warning about sharp price swings and the risk of total loss. Deka’s site adds that crypto holdings are not covered by statutory deposit insurance.

DSGV Reversed Course in 2025

The DSGV floated a crypto wallet for its customers in December 2021. Its board voted against a crypto offer the following year, Handelsblatt reported. By early 2024, savings bank committees were urging their banks to stay out of crypto trading.

The board reversed that position in 2025 and tasked Deka with building the service. It cited customer demand and the legal framework that MiCA set.
