DTCC has announced a new tokenization service for real-world assets (RWA), covering 25 securities with $30 trillion in underlying assets. Tokens mirror the original assets on a 1:1 basis with CUSIPs and provide identical investor protections. DTC maintains the official ledger, enabling 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers between registered wallets. Conversions can be submitted between 2 AM and 6 PM ET, with processing completed in under 15 minutes. Dividends and maturities for U.S. Treasuries will be managed on-chain, with fiat payouts. The service includes the Russell 1000, ETFs, and U.S. Treasuries. Supported networks include Canton (CIP-56), Besu (ERC-20), and Stellar (SEP-41), with Stellar and Arc expected to be integrated by 2027. The service incorporates crypto compliance measures for token transfers.

According to DTCC’s documentation on its tokenization service, the initial offering includes 25 tokenizable securities, all underlying securities held in custody by DTC, with a total value of approximately $30 trillion. Each token maintains a 1:1 correspondence with its underlying security, uses the same CUSIP, and preserves identical rights and investor protections as book-entry securities, with official records still maintained by DTC. Peer-to-peer transfers are available 24/7 between registered DTC wallets, and tokens include compliance-based transfer restrictions.
Users can submit conversion orders via the UI and API between 2:00 AM and 6:00 PM Eastern Time on business days, with a target processing time of under 15 minutes. Interest payments and maturity settlements for U.S. Treasuries will occur on-chain, with funds paid in fiat currency to participants' traditional accounts.
The initial supported assets include Russell 1000 components (starting with select large-cap stocks), select ETFs, and U.S. Treasuries. The initial networks launching are Canton Network (CIP-56) and DTCC’s private Besu network (ERC-20); Stellar (SEP-41) and Circle’s Arc (ERC-20) are expected to be integrated by 2027.
The future roadmap includes expanding the range of tokenizable securities, adding control features such as single sign-on and maker-checker, enhancing corporate actions services for stocks and ETFs, integrating bookkeeping with on-chain stock records, and supporting on-chain netting, collateral, and digital
