China has relaxed import restrictions on NVIDIA H200 chips, with ByteDance and Tencent each securing 10,000 units recently. The Fear and Greed Index among tech firms indicates growing confidence in AI infrastructure. While shipments are now arriving in batches, Beijing still imposes a cap on the total number allowed into mainland China, prompting companies to utilize offshore hubs such as Hong Kong. Domestic chip purchases require individual approvals, balancing support for AI leaders with opportunities for domestic players like Huawei. Altcoins to watch may respond as AI firms gain greater access to hardware.

ChainCatcher report: China has begun easing import restrictions on NVIDIA H200 chips. ByteDance and Tencent each received approximately 10,000 H200 chips in recent weeks, and several other tech companies may soon receive similar approvals. Although the U.S. has previously approved multiple Chinese companies to purchase H200 chips, transactions were previously stalled at the Chinese approval stage. Now, these chips are finally beginning to arrive in bulk in mainland China, though restrictions remain far from fully lifted. Beijing currently permits only limited quantities of H200 chips into mainland China, encouraging companies to deploy more chips in overseas regions such as Hong Kong. Purchases within mainland China still require individual applications and approvals. This approach allows leading AI companies to continue using NVIDIA chips for training cutting-edge models, while also creating market space for domestic chips from companies like Huawei.
