Shenchao Overview: In the blind spot of most crypto investors, a blockchain dedicated to serving top global traditional financial institutions has quietly risen to the top in terms of on-chain transaction fee revenue: Every quarter in 2026, the institutional-grade privacy settlement blockchain Canton captures more network transaction fees than Tron, Solana, and the Ethereum mainnet combined.
A landmark institutional shift officially occurred in October: the Super Verifier Committee, composed of Wall Street giants including Visa, Apollo, and the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), unanimously approved the far-reaching governance proposal CIP-0129. This proposal establishes a new economic model called "Universal Burn," completely eliminating the previous fee disparity between private independent synchronizers and the public layer. It mandates that all production-grade synchronizers on the network must pay for traffic costs by burning CC tokens on the open market, effective 2027.
The renowned independent think tank Alea Research provides an in-depth quantitative analysis in this report, thoroughly modeling Canton’s disruptive token value capture loop. Current public market traffic burn already offsets 69% of new token issuance; when trillions of dollars in real institutional trading fully integrates with the burn mechanism, a new institutional finance paradigm—featuring privacy isolation and a native deflationary flywheel—is emerging.

Canton provides traditional commercial banks with a seamless, shared network infrastructure while ensuring that each bank's positions and trade secrets remain completely invisible to others. Its Global Synchronizer manages network traffic and settles billing by burning Canton's native token, CC.
In October of this year, Canton’s Super Validators committee officially approved a landmark comprehensive burn proposal. Starting in early 2027, this mechanism will bring every active production-grade synchronizer on the network into this token burn loop.
Key Points Summary
Canton is integrating its substantial private institutional traffic fully into a unified token burn system. Proposal CIP-0129 formally establishes a phased roadmap for eliminating dedicated independent syncer license fees, with all production-grade applications beginning in 2027 uniformly burning CC tokens on the open market based on actual network traffic consumption.
In the first three quarters of 2026, Canton captured a total of on-chain transaction fees that surpassed Tron, Solana, and Ethereum mainnet in every single quarter. Alone in the third quarter, the network generated $157.5 million in transaction fee revenue.
The current network traffic has generated token burns sufficient to offset 69% of new token issuance, a significant increase from just 11% a year ago. As the scheduled stepwise reduction in token issuance takes effect in January 2027, the gap between token burns and new supply will be further narrowed.
The current CC token valuation on the secondary market is approximately 6.3 times its network traffic burn volume. On October 26, CC closed at $0.0994, corresponding to a total network circulating market cap of approximately $3.95 billion.
Model calculations show that only an additional one-third increase in network traffic destruction, on top of current levels, is needed to achieve a comprehensive deflationary balance for the token. The USD-pegged traffic pricing mechanism has significantly boosted the total actual token destruction volume in September.

Fee income has consistently led the network since January.
Canton is an innovative public blockchain network: parties involved in transactions can only view transaction fragments directly relevant to them, while the network’s underlying global synchronizer efficiently coordinates and unifies cross-contract settlement states without accessing any private data.
The Broadridge repurchase agreement trading platform, built on Canton’s underlying technology, processed an average of $357 billion in U.S. Treasury repo trades daily in September this year; meanwhile, custodians also settled massive volumes of over-the-counter derivatives on this network.
These massive real-world financial activities are ultimately mapped onto the public token layer: network validators must purchase network traffic at a fixed rate of $60 per megabyte (MB) and burn the equivalent amount of CC tokens on-chain.
Although the total value locked (TVL) in on-chain DeFi on Canton was only around $8.1 million as of September 30, this metric was originally designed for traditional crypto lending protocols and cannot objectively measure the true economic activity of a trillion-dollar institutional settlement network.

Distribution of value for newly minted CC tokens
Network validators purchase network traffic for the Global Syncer by burning CC tokens at a fixed fiat price of $60 per megabyte, with the number of tokens burned dynamically calculated in real time based on the daily closing price on the secondary market.
The current network's inflation distribution curve is significantly favoring actual ecosystem builders. Of all newly minted CC tokens in September 2026, top-performing selected applications received up to 73% of the token allocation, while the share allocated to super verifiers was drastically reduced to 14%.

At the economic incentive level, Canton employs a sophisticated dynamic subsidy formula: for every $1 of real traffic consumption brought to the network by an application, the system rewards it with approximately $1 worth of newly minted CC tokens.
This mechanism effectively motivated developers during the network’s launch phase, creating a nearly perfect financial闭环 between token burns and application subsidies over the past several months.

More importantly, the design of purchasing network traffic at a fixed dollar value served as a stabilizing anchor during corrections in the token’s secondary market price.
Over the past 30 days ending September 30, despite a 26% decline in the secondary market price of Canton tokens and a阶段性 27% drop in short-term network traffic, the total actual token burn volume measured in USD remained steadily near maximum levels.

The arrival of the era of uniform pricing for all synchronizers
The recently approved CIP-0129 proposal fundamentally eliminates the institutional divide between public and private network traffic. Starting in 2027, every independent synchronizer running production-grade services on the network will completely move away from the traditional annual license fee model.
Instead, all institutions must adhere to a uniform billing standard with the public layer, purchasing the full throughput consumed by their independent synchronizers by burning CC tokens on-chain.
Mechanically applying a uniform fixed transaction fee to all types of on-chain operations would inevitably stifle high-throughput, low-margin use cases such as high-frequency micropayments and market-making trades.
To this end, the Canton Foundation has designed a flexible, phased implementation plan: Phase one will launch in the first quarter of 2027, introducing a case-based tiered discount burn system; phase two will go live in the third quarter of 2027, deploying automated commitment discounts and volume-based pricing mechanisms.

Behind this shift in mechanism is deep participation from the world’s top financial institutions in Canton’s governance leadership. From Visa and Apollo entering first in March, to the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), Paxos, and Marex officially approved by the end of September, the eight super validators not only form the consensus foundation of the network but also bring an immeasurable reserve of institutional settlement business to the entire network.

Sensitivity modeling of token deflationary equilibrium
The burn rate of the token will eventually intersect perfectly with the minting rate at an equilibrium price point. Based on the actual minting of 648.5 million CC tokens in September, the theoretical equilibrium price for the token is $0.0752.
Based on the official closing price of $0.0994 on October 26, the actual USD traffic consumption generated in September was sufficient to burn approximately 76% of the total new tokens issued that month. This means we are now less than a quarter away from fully offsetting issuance and entering a phase of net deflation.

Chart: Sensitivity test model showing the coverage ratio of September traffic burn relative to total token issuance under varying CC token prices and additional traffic burn growth rates.
It is worth noting that although the theoretical upper limit for token issuance still has room to increase, the rate of new token release will significantly slow down as the predefined secondary step-down in the token issuance curve takes effect in early 2027.
Canton has successfully built a settlement blockchain that enables traditional financial institutions to operate in coordination while fully safeguarding data privacy. As the comprehensive burn mechanism converts trillions of dollars in real settlement flows between institutions into token purchasing power and a burning flywheel, a true commercial闭环 for institutional-grade blockchains is undergoing a qualitative transformation.
