High Oil Prices and Persistent Rate-Hike Expectations Push BTC Back Below $80K
🔍 Core Insights
  • 📊 Market Analysis
    • U.S. markets were closed overnight for Labor Day, leaving no fresh price discovery from equities or Treasuries. However, rate-hike expectations following the strong nonfarm payrolls report, together with renewed Middle East oil-price pressure, continued to weigh on risk sentiment. Markets are still pricing in roughly a 58% chance of a 25bp Fed rate hike in September, while UBS has revised its outlook to expect 25bp hikes in both September and December. Meanwhile, the U.S.-Iran conflict has continued to spread toward energy infrastructure and shipping routes, pushing Brent crude to $97.31/bbl and WTI to $92.65/bbl, both around six-week highs. BTC fell from around $80.5K back below $79K, while ETH slipped below $2.5K. In the near term, BTC first needs to hold the $78.5K-$79K area, with $77K-$77.5K remaining an important support zone from the previous trading range. A recovery above $80K-$80.5K would be needed to ease short-term weakness, while $82K remains the main upside resistance.
    • BTC: $79,117.8 (-1.53%); ETH: $2,490.24 (-0.99%); NASDAQ: 26,506.99 (-0.29%); S&P 500: 7,718.60 (-0.38%); Fear & Greed Index: 69 (previous: 71) (Data as of 2026-09-08 00:00 UTC)
  • 🧠 Market Insight
    • Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, has confirmed plans to launch the LAPTOP Meme coin on Base on September 9, with political Meme activity already heating up ahead of the official launch. LAPTOP is themed around the controversial “Hunter Biden laptop” episode, while Hunter himself has repeatedly voiced support for cryptocurrencies this year. The token has a total supply of 1 billion. The founding team will hold 30%, locked for six months and then released gradually over two years. Another 20% is planned for airdrops, with part allocated to users who lost money on the TRUMP token and another portion distributed to Hunter’s Substack subscribers. In addition, some token burns or donations will be linked to prediction-market outcomes, including the 2028 U.S. presidential election and whether LAPTOP’s market capitalization can surpass TRUMP.
    • Compared with Meme coins that rely primarily on the visibility of a political figure, LAPTOP is clearly attempting to amplify attention through an “anti-Trump narrative + airdrops to loss-making TRUMP holders + political-event outcomes” structure. The token has yet to officially launch, but copycat LAPTOP tokens have already appeared across multiple chains, with several quickly surging and then retracing. Biden-themed Meme coins such as BODEN have also strengthened, highlighting the continued ability of political events to attract speculative capital. After launch, the key variables to monitor will be initial liquidity, holder concentration, actual airdrop execution, and whether trading volume can remain elevated after the first-day hype. Otherwise, the token could quickly revert to a one-off political Meme trade.
  • 🔥 Alpha Project Performance
    • Solana Ecosystem: Following a brief cooling in Robinhood Chain activity, some Meme liquidity has started rotating back toward Solana. ZCAT and STONK remain highly active, with prices holding near historical highs, while trading activity is also spreading toward infrastructure protocols such as Raydium and Jupiter.
    • Base Ecosystem: Tokenized stocks have become a key recent catalyst, with Aerodrome capturing core trading liquidity. AERO has gained around 30% over the past seven days, while ecosystem assets including VIRTUAL, TOSHI, and BRETT have also strengthened.
    • INJ: Canadian-listed mortgage fintech company Pineapple Financial has moved more than $1 billion of residential mortgage records on-chain via Injective and plans to eventually cover over $10 billion in historical mortgage portfolios, further expanding Injective’s RWA use cases. INJ is up around 18% over the past 24 hours.
Macro Economy
  • U.S.-Iran tensions: Iran’s Foreign Ministry said negotiations with Oman over shipping arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz have entered their final stage and are expected to conclude within days. The two sides plan to establish a temporary safe passage corridor and submit the arrangement to the International Maritime Organization. Iran has also established an “Economic War Command Center” to assess and address economic problems caused by the conflict. Saudi Aramco’s Jizan oil facility was also attacked again.
