Announcement on Optimizing the Calculation of Cross-Margin & Isolated-Margin Available Balance and Futures Account Transferable Amount(12-26)
12/23/2025, 09:45:02

Dear KuCoin Users:
To further enhance fund usage transparency and improve the accuracy of available balance calculations, KuCoin Futures will upgrade the calculation formulas for available balance and futures transferable amounts under both Cross-Margin and Isolated-Margin modes. This adjustment will not affect your existing positions or orders, and only optimizes the display and related logic of the “Available Balance”.
The upgrade will take effect on December 26, 2025. Please note that the updated available balance calculation logic requires App version 4.6.0 or later to take effect. To avoid order rejections caused by version discrepancies, we recommend updating the App to the latest version in advance.
The detailed changes are as follows:
一、 Cross-Margin Available Balance (Unchanged)
-
Available Balance = max(0, Wallet Balance + sum(Cross-Margin Unrealized PnL) − (∑ Cross-Margin Position & Order Margin + ∑ Isolated-Margin Total Margin) − Frozen Amount)
-
All unrealized PnL under Cross-Margin mode is calculated using the Mark Price to ensure more robust risk control.
-
API field value (New field):
availableMargin
二、Futures Account Transferable Amount & Isolated-Margin Available Balance ( Adjustment)
-
Before the adjustment: Futures account transferable amount = Isolated-Margin available balance = Cross-Margin available balance
-
After the adjustment: Futures account transferable amount = Isolated-Margin available balance ≠ Cross-Margin available balance
= max(0, Wallet Balance + min(sum(Cross-Margin Unrealized PnL), 0) − (∑ Cross-Margin Position & Order Margin + ∑ Isolated-Margin Total Margin) − Frozen Amount)
-
API field value :
availableBalance
Key Changes:
-
When Cross-Margin positions are in profit, they will no longer increase the Isolated-Margin available balance or the futures account transferable amount.
-
Unrealized PnL from Cross-Margin positions will be included in the Isolated-Margin available balance calculation only when it is negative.
-
All Cross-Margin unrealized PnL continues to be calculated based on the Mark Price.
三、API Adjustments
To support this upgrade of the available balance calculation logic, the following API field optimizations will be applied. API reference:
-
Existing field
availableBalance: After this adjustment, this field will be used only for Isolated-Margin available balance and futures account transferable amount calculations. -
New field
availableMargin: Used only for displaying Cross-Margin available balance on the user side, providing a more accurate reflection of the actual available funds under Cross-Margin mode.
API users are advised to pay close attention to these field definition changes and adjust their balance checks and order placement logic according to the margin mode in use, to avoid order rejections caused by misinterpretation of the fields.
四、Purpose of This Optimization
-
Improve the accuracy of fund separation between Cross-Margin and Isolated-Margin modes
-
Prevent Isolated-Margin balances from being affected by profits from other positions
-
Strengthen the isolation logic of Isolated-Margin mode and enhance overall risk control
-
Optimize the user experience for available balance display
This update does not affect existing positions, order execution, margin levels, or liquidation logic.
