Anza announced that the new consensus protocol, Alpenglow, has been activated on Solana mainnet, officially retiring the previous TowerBFT protocol. The switch was completed at epoch 1,064, involving 654 validators and taking just 900 milliseconds. Transaction finality time has been reduced from approximately 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds. The protocol previously passed proposal SIMD-0236 with 98% approval.
