Solana just cut finality by 99% with Alpenglow live on mainnet... and I'm still not convinced that matters if the validator set stays this centralized. Faster blocks don't fix the actual problem. Real decentralization does. This is why I keep saying POW chains like Kaspa are going to flip the major POS names next cycle — you can optimize consensus speed all day, but you can't optimize away the fact that POS concentrates power in whoever already has the most stake. Solana devs will tell you 150ms finality is the unlock for real-time apps, payments, trading. Fine, I get the pitch. But speed was never the thing holding back mainstream adoption, trust was. And trust doesn't come from a faster finality number, it comes from a network you can't buy your way into controlling. Kaspa's doing 10 BPS already on pure POW with no premine, no VC allocation, no insider unlock schedule waiting to dump on you. That's the actual unlock. Genuine question for the SOL maxis: does 99% faster finality change anything if the top 20 validators still control enough stake to coordinate? Or are we just celebrating a tech upgrade that doesn't touch the real issue.
