Would bringing consecutive block producers closer together make the network more centralized? Analysis of Solana’s new parameters reveals the trade-offs behind performance gains. ① On October 14, Solana’s official website published a geographically aware leader ordering analysis. It examines the parameter choices of the existing SIMD-0675; the materials released this week are supplementary analysis, not a re-packaging of the old proposal as a newly approved upgrade. ② The approach retains the number of block production slots each validator originally receives, but rearranges the order of these slots to bring geographically adjacent leaders closer together, reducing propagation delays during transitions. ③ The trade-off is that the network may remain concentrated in the same geographic region for longer periods. The paper constructs 6,250 synthetic networks based on 124 locations to study trade-offs between latency, geographic centralization, and false location reporting; these are model-based results, not actual mainnet performance improvements. ④ The paper discusses a stake floor of approximately 10% and run lengths between 3 and 7, but these analytical recommendations do not equate to final adoption, nor do they imply that any related parameters have been deployed. My own assessment: This kind of material is far more valuable to read than a simple announcement of “faster by dozens of milliseconds.” Decentralization cannot be measured solely by the total number of nodes—it must also consider who is producing blocks consecutively over short time intervals and where they are located. I’m open to performance optimizations backed by evidence, and I also hope regional failures and location authenticity are taken seriously. @Solana_zh @solana @anza_xyz @SolanaFndn
