🚨 ANOTHER BRIDGE EXPLOITED FOR UP TO $13 MILLION. BUT NOT ON $ICP BY @dfinity ANOTHER DAY. ANOTHER REASON THE WORLD NEEDS $ICP. Wanchain’s Cardano-to-BNB Chain bridge has reportedly been exploited. Approximately 515.2 MILLION $NIGHT tokens were drained from the bridge treasury—valued at roughly $10 MILLION to $13 MILLION before and during the resulting market collapse. Initial analysis from BlockSec suggests the exploit may have involved a flaw in the TreasuryCheck validator. The signed message reportedly combined 14 variable-length fields without adequate separators or length prefixes. That ambiguity may have allowed a valid signature authorising approximately 3,110 $NIGHT to be reused to withdraw more than 203 MILLION $NIGHT. Approximately 65,000 TIMES the authorised amount. The attack reportedly occurred through four rapid transactions in approximately eight minutes. $NIGHT subsequently plunged more than 30%, reaching record lows near $0.016. Wanchain has taken the affected bridge offline and is investigating. Midnight’s underlying blockchain, validators and consensus were not reportedly compromised. THE FAILURE WAS IN THE THIRD-PARTY BRIDGE INFRASTRUCTURE. And that is exactly the point.
