As someone once on a multisig similar to the one recently compromised, I wanted to share a few thoughts on the Drift hack: Drift is a perps dex on Solana. Perps are one of the only use cases for Ethereum, but the core Ethereum community doesn't like this. I believe this is because the access to leverage makes them seem uniquely 'degen casino'. This is ignorant; you can loop on Aave for leverage. Ethereum basically gave it away to Hyperliquid. Perps are exactly the sorts of applications that L2s/L3s were made for. Native bridges are bad products. Third-party bridges don't guarantee their integrations will work indefinitely (or even up to specific times), so a permissioned address is required to responsibly productionize integrations with them. @etheconomiczone is finally addressing this. Thank you @koeppelmann. Oracles haven't reached a level of robustness where they can be integrated with indefinitely either. An exception here is Liquity's integration with Chainlink, though this is also dubious since there's no way to charge price consumers and compensate price providers in this integration. ERC-7412 is a proposal to fix this. Risk parameters are necessary for perps (as well as lending). This could be something provided alongside price feeds by oracles, but there's been little progress on this. My general recommendation is—rather than trying to distance Ethereum from Drift/Solana—think about how to build infrastructure that will actually make DeFi possible without multisigs. There's still a lot of work to do!
