WEEKLY CRYPTO ROUNDUP THE LAST SEVEN DAYS (11 October – 18 October 2026) MARKETS • Bitcoin opened the week near $86k–$87k, sold off below $80k mid-week on hotter-than-expected US PPI data and rising bond yields, then recovered to roughly $81k–$82k by Sunday. Weekly performance was approximately –2% to –2.6%. • Ethereum underperformed again, falling around 5–6% toward the $2,360–$2,400 zone. • Solana declined roughly 5%. • Leveraged liquidations were elevated throughout the period, with multiple sessions seeing well over $500 million wiped out and some 24-hour windows exceeding $900 million. • Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $228.6 million in net outflows across the five trading sessions through 16 October, taking month-to-date redemptions to roughly $615 million. • BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC led the outflows. • Ethereum ETFs saw larger weekly outflows of about $320 million, with BlackRock’s ETHA again the biggest contributor. Solana ETFs remained in outflow mode. • Total crypto market capitalisation finished the week near $2.70T–$2.75T (down roughly 3%). Bitcoin dominance held around 60%. • Some on-chain data indicated continued accumulation by larger wallets on the dips. DEFI • Aerodrome and Velodrome confirmed the final terms for their merger into the unified Aero cross-chain DEX, which launches on 21 October. • AERO converts 1:1 while VELO converts at approximately 0.044 AERO. • Aerodrome holders are allocated 94.5% of the new supply. • Combined TVL sits near $422 million, with the new protocol deploying across Base, Ethereum, OP Mainnet and additional chains. •Solana’s Alpenglow consensus upgrade is scheduled to activate on mainnet on 21 October (epoch 1064). • The first phase (Votor) aims to cut finality from roughly 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds. • Tokenised stock activity on DEXs stayed elevated. Hyperliquid continued to see heavy volume and large liquidations during the volatility. MEMECOINS • Launchpad volumes remained well below early-September peaks, with no major new catalysts dominating the week. SECURITY • The Ledger/CryptoBilis supply-chain incident remained the headline security event. • Devices sold by the Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis contained unauthorised hardware implants that captured recovery phrases during setup and exfiltrated them over LTE. •Traced losses ranged from roughly $87 million to over $100 million across chains (heavily TRON USDT, plus BTC and ETH). • Ledger confirmed the affected cases were limited to CryptoBilis devices, paused the reseller, and advised users to move funds to a fresh signer. •Tether froze approximately $10 million of the stolen USDT. Follow-on phishing campaigns using fake Ledger firmware update pages also emerged. • Smaller incidents during the week included an unbacked mint event on Pirate Chain and residual activity linked to earlier exploits. CRYPTO • Strategy (MicroStrategy) continued to hold a large Bitcoin treasury, with Michael Saylor posting signals that further accumulation remained on the table. • Institutional ETF demand stayed soft for most of the week amid macro headwinds, even as some longer-term holders added on weakness. • Ecosystem preparation continued for the 21 October Solana Alpenglow activation and the Aerodrome–Velodrome merger.
