𝗖𝗥𝗬𝗣𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗙 Saturday, 1 August 2026 06:34 CEST - Zurich, Switzerland 🇨🇭 August begins with most of the crypto market in retreat. Bitcoin is back below $63,000, Ethereum is trading around $1,866, and fear has returned faster than most holiday travellers. 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 Global crypto market capitalisation: approximately $2.16 trillion 24-hour market-cap change: -1.59% 24-hour trading volume: approximately $60.9 billion Bitcoin dominance: 58.41% Ethereum dominance: approximately 10.4% Crypto Fear & Greed Index: 33/100 - Fear CoinDesk 20 crypto basket: -1.36% The decline is broad but still orderly. Bitcoin, Ethereum and most large altcoins are lower, while trading volume remains substantial. This looks like risk reduction rather than market dislocation, although crypto has occasionally converted one into the other before breakfast. 𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝟭𝟬 𝗖𝗥𝗬𝗣𝗧𝗢𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗦 CryptoMarketCap snapshot: Bitcoin - BTC | $62,951.90 | -3.29% | ↓ Clearly negative Ethereum - ETH | $1,866.42 | -3.29% | ↓ Clearly negative Tether - USDT | $1.00 | +0.10% | → Stable BNB - BNB | $589.26 | -0.62% | ↓ Slightly negative USDC - USDC | $1.00 | +0.08% | → Stable XRP - XRP | $1.06 | -2.13% | ↓ Negative Solana - SOL | $73.06 | -2.50% | ↓ Negative TRON - TRX | $0.327 | -0.73% | ↓ Slightly negative Hyperliquid - HYPE | $52.58 | -5.95% | ↓ Sharp decline Dogecoin - DOGE | $0.0700 | -1.12% | ↓ Negative HYPE is the weakest asset in the top ten. Bitcoin and Ethereum are falling almost in parallel, while BNB and TRON are proving comparatively defensive. USDT and USDC remain close to their dollar pegs. 𝗙𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗦 CoinMarketCap top-100 snapshot: MemeCore - M | $1.11 | +12.38% Audiera - BEAT | $4.29 | +11.72% https://t.co/AoNC7DslCB - PUMP | $0.002187 | +9.52% Shiba Inu - SHIB | $0.000004994 | +6.71% Pi - PI | $0.08559 | +5.08% The strongest performers are concentrated in memecoins and smaller speculative assets. That does not contradict the wider market decline. It shows that capital is still willing to speculate, provided it can do so selectively and with sufficient enthusiasm. 𝗙𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗦 CoinMarketCap top-100 snapshot: Lighter - LIT | $2.05 | -8.95% Lido DAO - LDO | $0.3367 | -7.60% Aave - AAVE | $92.19 | -7.49% Hyperliquid - HYPE | $52.29 | -4.66% Uniswap - UNI | $4.26 | -4.50% The loser list is heavily weighted toward DeFi and trading infrastructure. LDO, AAVE, HYPE and UNI are all under pressure, suggesting that investors are cutting exposure to higher-beta protocols rather than abandoning only one isolated narrative. 𝗙𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗗𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗦 CoinMarketCap recently added snapshot: NVDA RTX STOCKS - RTX | $0.0004594 | +12.61% | Added approximately 13 hours ago ShopinX - SPX | $0.07544 | +11.76% | Added approximately 15 hours ago TENDIES - TENDIES | $0.01232 | +14.19% | Added approximately 19 hours ago Ansem Cat - ANSEMCAT | $0.000003486 | +54.12% | Added approximately 20 hours ago What IF - IF | $0.02432 | +43.81% | Added approximately 22 hours ago These assets are extremely new and may have limited liquidity, uncertain token distribution and minimal price history. “Recently added” describes a database event. It is not a statement about legitimacy, value or technical quality. 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝟭𝟬 𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗦 𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗦 Galaxy Research estimates that 1,082.65 BTC, worth approximately $70.2 million, may have been drained from 1,196 addresses associated with vulnerable Coldcard-generated seed phrases. Coinkite has expanded its security warning and published firmware thresholds for affected Coldcard devices. Users with potentially vulnerable seeds are being told to update first, generate a new seed on secure firmware, test the receiving address and then migrate funds. The total loss estimate remains developing rather than final. The confirmed point is that Coinkite identified a firmware-related weakness affecting seed generation on certain versions. 𝗖𝗙𝗧𝗖 𝗦𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗚𝗘𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗘 𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗢𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘 The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission settled a prediction-market manipulation case involving former congressman George Santos. The CFTC alleged that Santos manipulated a Kalshi market concerning attendance at the State of the Union address. The settlement includes approximately $35,000 in monetary relief, a cease-and-desist order and a three-year trading ban. Santos neither admitted nor denied the findings. Prediction markets are often described as tools for discovering truth. The regulator’s allegation is a useful reminder that some participants may prefer to manufacture it. 𝗧𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦 $𝟭.𝟱 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗟𝗬 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗜𝗧 Tether reported approximately $1.5 billion in net operating profit for the second quarter. The company reported $187.75 billion in assets and $183.64 billion in liabilities. Its excess reserve buffer declined to approximately $4.11 billion from $8.23 billion, while USDT issuance reached about $184.6 billion. Tether also reported holding more than 146 metric tons of gold and 98,933 BTC. The figures derive from a reserve attestation, which is not the same as a full financial-statement audit. 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗜𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗥 The Bank of Italy tested 200 USDC remittances from Italy to Argentina, Brazil, Japan, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. The study found no systematic cost advantage over conventional remittance methods. Total costs ranged from approximately 0.30% to almost 9%, with most of the expense arising from on-ramps, off-ramps and domestic payment infrastructure rather than blockchain transaction fees. Blockchain settlement may be fast. Converting bank money into tokens, sending them and converting them back into spendable local currency remains the less glamorous part of the process. 𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗜𝗡 𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗝𝗨𝗟𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 Despite the current decline, Bitcoin finished July approximately 7.5% higher. Analysts cited relatively low leverage as a factor that may reduce forced selling, while warning that employment data, ETF flows and thinner August liquidity could produce choppy trading. A positive monthly candle therefore coexists comfortably with a negative morning. Crypto has never been particularly troubled by contradictions between timeframes. 𝗣𝗨𝗠𝗣.𝗙𝗨𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗬𝗘𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 https://t.co/AoNC7DslCB reportedly dismissed employees shortly before they were scheduled to receive substantial PUMP token allocations. The company’s co-founder attributed the restructuring to excessive hiring and rapid growth. The timing has nevertheless raised questions about token-based remuneration, vesting arrangements and governance. Crypto compensation can align incentives. It can also create unusually expensive employment disputes when the token price moves before the vesting date. 𝗔𝗜-𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗥𝗬𝗣𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚 AMLBot introduced a self-service AI tracing tool designed to follow visible cryptocurrency flows across chains, bridges and wallets. The tool can assist investigators and compliance teams, but it cannot identify invisible internal exchange transfers, determine the purpose of a transaction, freeze assets or guarantee recovery. AI may accelerate blockchain analysis. It does not remove the need for evidence, legal process or human judgment. 𝗙𝗥𝗔𝗨𝗗, 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗠 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗟 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 The Coldcard matter is the most significant fresh security event. Potentially affected users should follow Coinkite’s official migration guidance rather than rely on social-media instructions. The George Santos settlement shows that prediction markets are increasingly being treated as regulated financial markets rather than informal betting platforms. https://t.co/AoNC7DslCB’s reported dismissals raise governance and contractual questions around token-based employee remuneration. No other major new, independently verified criminal judgment, scam prosecution or protocol exploit met both the ten-hour publication cutoff and the evidentiary threshold used for this briefing. 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗦 SHIB is up 6.71%. PUMP is up 9.52%. MemeCore is up 12.38%. DOGE is down 1.12%. SOL is down 2.50%. XRP is down 2.13%. HYPE is down approximately 5% to 6%, depending on the source and timestamp. The category is fragmented. Smaller memecoins are rising while DOGE and most major altcoins are falling. This is speculative rotation, not a broad altcoin rally. 𝗗𝗘𝗙𝗜 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 LIT is down 8.95%. LDO is down 7.60%. AAVE is down 7.49%. HYPE is down 4.66%. UNI is down 4.50%. DeFi-related assets dominate the loser table. Falling prices do not necessarily imply declining protocol usage, but they do indicate that investors are demanding a larger risk discount from governance, lending and trading tokens this morning. 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗢𝗞𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗬 USDT - $1.00 | +0.10% USDC - $1.00 | +0.08% Tether’s reported USDT issuance: approximately $184.6 billion Tether’s excess reserve buffer: approximately $4.11 billion No material de-pegging signal is visible in either USDT or USDC. The Bank of Italy study is the more important structural finding. Stablecoins can reduce settlement friction, but their total cost depends heavily on banking access, exchange spreads and local payment rails. The blockchain is only one component of the payment chain. 𝗖𝗕𝗗𝗖𝗦, 𝗡𝗙𝗧𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗥𝗬𝗣𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗞𝗘𝗧𝗦 CBDCs: No material, independently verified CBDC announcement was published within the exact ten-hour review period. NFTs: No major NFT-specific enforcement case, infrastructure announcement or market event met the same timing and verification threshold. Crypto baskets: The CoinDesk 20 was down approximately 1.36%, confirming that the weakness extends beyond Bitcoin. DeFi represented approximately 13.94% of global 24-hour crypto trading volume in CoinMarketCap’s snapshot. The quiet CBDC and NFT sections are not omissions. Nothing sufficiently important and verifiable occurred within the defined period. Sometimes the most accurate market update is that a fashionable category produced no news. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬 Whether Bitcoin can recover $63,000 and then $64,000. Whether Ethereum holds above $1,850. Whether HYPE stabilises after its sharp decline. Whether strength in PUMP, SHIB and MemeCore spreads to DOGE. Further information concerning the Coldcard vulnerability and estimated losses. Employment data, ETF flows and early-August liquidity. Whether DeFi tokens continue underperforming the wider market. Any further CFTC or state-level action concerning prediction markets. The first morning of August is risk-off, but not chaotic. Stablecoins remain stable, smaller memecoins are still finding buyers, and the most consequential overnight stories concern security, enforcement and the costs hidden around blockchain payments. In other words, the technology continues to move quickly. The difficult parts remain custody, law and converting tokens back into money people can actually spend. 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗥 Regulatory classification, product availability, investor protections, disclosure requirements and tax treatment differ across the United States, Switzerland and the European Union.
