🚨 TECH: CLOUDFLARE TARGETS 2029 FOR FULL POST-QUANTUM SECURITY AS BITCOIN THREAT TIMELINE SHRINKS @Cloudflare announced it is accelerating its post-quantum roadmap, targeting 2029 to make its entire product suite quantum-resistant, including authentication. The move follows recent research from Google and quantum startup Oratomic that dramatically reduced the estimated hardware needed to crack elliptic curve cryptography from roughly 9 million qubits to as few as 10,000. The timeline matters for crypto. Bitcoin relies on elliptic curve signatures to secure private keys, and an estimated 6.9 million $BTC sitting in older wallets with exposed public keys could be vulnerable to a quantum attack. Satoshi Nakamoto's roughly 1.1 million BTC are among the most exposed. Google, the NSA, and NIST are all converging on 2029-2035 migration deadlines. Ethereum has launched a post-quantum resource hub, and Solana built a quantum-resistant vault in early 2025. Bitcoin's community remains divided on the path forward, with some proposals clashing with the network's core design principles.
