Modularity is great until the thing you’re modularizing becomes your biggest attack surface. The Cosmos EVM incidents are a good example. Different chains can customize their own networks while still relying on common infrastructure for EVM functionality. That saves development time, but it also creates correlated risk. Independent chains can end up sharing the same failure mode without sharing the same teams, validators or governance. So the real question isn’t just how modular a chain is. It’s how much of its security is actually inherited from infrastructure it doesn’t control. This probably something we’ll hear a lot more about as more chains start relying on the same infrastructure.
