XRP Ledger hits five billion transactions, marking 14 years of operation. The network upgrade supports fast, low-cost settlements, with transactions averaging three to four seconds. AI agents have processed over 2.3 million payments, while real-world assets (RWA) news shows tokenized assets reaching $4.05 billion. XRP ETFs hold $1.4 billion, and Mastercard is backing an XRPL hackathon. Network accounts now top eight million.

In Brief:

  • XRPL has surpassed five billion lifetime transactions while maintaining low-cost settlements throughout fourteen years of reliable network operation for users.
  • AI agents have completed over 2.3 million payments, while tokenized real-world assets reached approximately $4.05 billion across the XRP Ledger.
  • XRP ETFs collectively hold approximately $1.4 billion, while Mastercard sponsors an XRPL hackathon and registered network accounts exceed eight million.

The XRP Ledger has surpassed five billion lifetime transactions, marking fourteen years of consistent operation and expanding blockchain utility. According to XRPScan, the network crossed the major transaction threshold as payment, tokenization, and decentralized finance activity strengthened across XRPL.

XRPL validator operator Vet also highlighted the milestone through an X post discussing the network’s long-term performance. According to Vet, users executed five billion low-cost transactions, with settlements generally completing within three to four seconds.

He expressed confidence in the network’s development while looking toward another five billion transactions across its growing ecosystem. David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto began developing the XRP Ledger in 2011.

Their work aimed to address Bitcoin’s energy consumption and create a digital asset designed specifically for efficient global payments. The engineers launched XRPL in June 2012 with a consensus system that removed the need for energy-intensive cryptocurrency mining.

Consequently, validators could confirm transactions quickly without competing through the expensive computational process associated with proof-of-work blockchains. That structure has supported payments, token issuance, decentralized trading, and cross-border transfers throughout the network’s operating history.

AI Payments and Institutional Assets Expand XRP Ledger Usage

XRPL activity now extends beyond ordinary XRP transfers as developers introduce services for institutions, businesses, and automated artificial intelligence agents. More than 2.3 million agentic transactions have settled through XRPL as AI systems purchase services directly using XRP and RLUSD.

Additionally, institutional decentralized finance applications increasingly involve stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets, and decentralized liquidity products operating across the blockchain. Data from RWA.xyz places the represented value of real-world assets on XRPL at approximately $4.05 billion.

This expansion reflects rising interest in using the ledger for digital representations of financial instruments and other traditionally managed assets. Meanwhile, total XRP Ledger accounts have reached 8,094,489, demonstrating wider participation among users, developers, institutions, and asset issuers.

Every transaction also requires a small XRP fee, which the network permanently removes from circulation instead of rewarding validators. Since XRPL’s launch, transaction fees have destroyed approximately 14,376,417 XRP, representing nearly 0.014 percent of its fixed supply.

XRP ETFs and Mastercard Strengthen Institutional Participation

Moreover, United States spot XRP exchange-traded funds collectively hold approximately $1.4 billion worth of XRP. Those holdings represent around 1.62 percent of XRP’s market capitalization, while cumulative net inflows have reached approximately $1.62 billion.

Corporate participation has also grown, with Mastercard joining the XRP Ledger Hackathon as an official sponsor. The XRP Ledger Foundation will co-host the developer event before Ripple’s Swell conference scheduled for October.

Participants will build payment, tokenization, and financial applications using development tools available within the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem. Overall, five billion transactions demonstrate XRPL’s durability, while institutional assets and automated payments broaden its role beyond its original purpose.
