XRPL validator Vet pushed back on claims that Algorand is already fully quantum-ready, noting that quantum-secure accounts are only one layer of the problem. That distinction is important: Algorand has made real progress, but its consensus system still relies partly on cryptography that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could eventually threaten.
Ripple, meanwhile, is working with Project Eleven on a broader system-wide XRPL assessment, including validators, custody, wallets and networking.
Algorand Has a Head Start, but Not a Finished System
Algorand began using Falcon post-quantum signatures in State Proofs in 2022, protecting historical ledger attestations. Native Falcon-based post-quantum accounts then went live on mainnet in August 2026.
But the network is not fully quantum-resistant yet.
Its current Verifiable Random Function, used in consensus committee selection, still relies on elliptic-curve cryptography. Consensus messaging also uses Ed25519, which is not quantum-resistant.
Algorand expects research on a post-quantum VRF in early 2027 and is targeting broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027.
That makes the claim that Algorand is already completely quantum-secure too strong.

XRP Ledger Is Taking a Broader Route
Ripple’s roadmap targets full post-quantum readiness by 2028.
The plan goes beyond wallet signatures. Project Eleven is testing hybrid post-quantum signing, validator performance, Devnet workloads and a quantum-secure custody prototype. Ripple is also examining larger signatures, storage overhead and throughput before moving toward a native amendment.
Project Eleven says the collaboration includes a full audit of XRPL’s validator, custody, networking and wallet layers, followed by working code and real performance data.
That builds on earlier Project Eleven work already covered by Coinpaper.
XRPL also has one structural advantage: native key rotation, allowing users to change signing keys without moving to a new account. Ripple says that could make a future migration easier than on networks where assets must be manually transferred.
We previously found that roughly 300,000 XRPL accounts holding about 2.4 billion XRP had not exposed their public keys, reducing one category of future quantum risk.
The Race Is About More Than Wallets
The bigger takeaway is that “quantum-ready” is not a single switch.
Wallets, validator signatures, consensus, custody and cryptographic primitives all have to migrate.
That is why Algorand can already offer quantum-resistant accounts while still working on consensus, and why XRPL can be behind on native account deployment while simultaneously testing more layers of the network.
XRP traded around $1.43 Thursday, down roughly 1%-2% on the day and more than 50% from a year ago.
