XRP ETFs saw stronger gains than the token amid liquidity gaps, with U.S. spot XRP ETFs rising 16% to 17% on September 3, compared to XRP’s 7% to 8% rise. Smaller ETFs like Grayscale’s XXRP, XRPT, and UXRP led the charge, while Bitwise and Franklin Templeton funds followed XRP more closely. The rally came despite $7.20 million in net outflows the prior day, with U.S. XRP ETFs holding $1.42 billion in assets. The fear and greed index remains a key indicator for market sentiment.

TL;DR

  • XRP gained about 7% to 8% while several smaller U.S. spot XRP ETFs surged 16% to 17%, creating an unusual short-term pricing gap.
  • Bitwise and Franklin Templeton funds tracked XRP more closely, while XXRP, XRPT and UXRP sharply outperformed as thinner order books produced premiums above NAV.
  • The move came without fresh capital: the prior session recorded $7.20 million in net outflows, while U.S. XRP ETFs hold about $1.42 billion.

XRP’s U.S. spot ETF market flashed an unusual pricing imbalance on September 3 as several funds climbed roughly twice as fast as the token itself. XRP traded near $1.44, up 7.04% over 24 hours after breaking out from a local descending channel and rebounding from its August low near $1.00. The striking disconnect is that some regulated ETF shares advanced 16% to 17% while the underlying token gained only about 7% to 8%. All seven U.S. spot XRP ETFs traded higher during the session, with interim volume reaching $19.7 million in U.S. trading hours.

The divergence was concentrated in smaller products rather than across the entire ETF complex. Bitwise’s XRP fund gained 8.47% and Franklin Templeton’s XRPZ rose 8.36%, broadly matching XRP’s spot performance. Grayscale’s XXRP, however, jumped 17.10%, while XRPT gained 16.78% and UXRP rose 17.01%. That split points to a liquidity problem inside individual ETF order books rather than a uniform revaluation of XRP exposure. The report links the moves to short-term shortages of sellers in less liquid funds, where market orders pushed shares sharply above the net asset value of their underlying holdings during the same session.

Thin Order Books Create A Premium Without Fresh Capital

The premium becomes more puzzling because it was not supported by fresh investor inflows. The previous session ended with $7.20 million in net outflows, all attributed to profit-taking from Bitwise’s fund, while every other issuer reported zero flows. ETF prices were therefore accelerating even as money was leaving the sector, creating an internal repricing event rather than a broad influx of new capital. Total daily trading volume reached $27.22 million, meaning the sharpest moves were being driven by relatively limited liquidity and aggressive orders rather than a major expansion in assets in the ETF sector.

U.S. spot XRP ETFs currently hold about $1.42 billion, equivalent to 1.67% of XRP’s total market capitalization, while cumulative net inflows since launch exceed $1.68 billion. The wider implication is that thin regulated products can temporarily move faster than the asset they are designed to track when available liquidity becomes constrained. That does not mean the ETFs are permanently leading XRP, but the September 3 session showed how premiums can emerge quickly when demand collides with shallow sell-side depth, allowing selected funds to outperform the token’s daily advance by around 100% during that trading window.
