As per The Crypto Basic, discussions have emerged in crypto circles about using Ripple’s escrowed XRP to help the U.S. government reduce its $38 trillion national debt. In January 2025, XRP researcher Dr. Horace Drew proposed a scenario where former President Donald Trump could seize Ripple’s $200 billion in escrowed XRP and gradually increase its value to $500, potentially wiping out the debt. Similar ideas were shared by other community figures, including UtilityFTW and Newsmax host Carl Higbie, who suggested injecting funds into XRP to drive its price higher and use the tokens to pay down the debt. However, Ripple currently holds 35 billion XRP tokens, valued at $87.5 billion, which is far below the amount needed to cover the national debt. Analysts have speculated that XRP would need to reach $543 to pay off half the debt and $1,088 to fully settle it, representing massive price increases.
