XRP Asia has been officially launched at XRP Seoul 2026, with a focus on driving growth of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) across the Asia-Pacific region. This new organization aims to attract more businesses, developers, and financial institutions to join the network.
This launch comes just before two major XRPL upgrades—Batch and Permission Delegation—scheduled for early October 2026.
XRP Asia is now officially live
XRP Asia is led by Sabrina Tachdjian, who previously served as Vice President of the Hedera Foundation. She will be attending an event at the Grand Hyatt Seoul on October 3 as part of Blockchain Week Korea, titled "Special Announcement: What’s Coming Next for the XRP Ecosystem in Asia."
The event also featured representatives from Woori Bank, K Bank, and JB Bank in a roundtable discussion on cross-border payments and tokenized deposits.
The organization's strategy covers four areas: technology, startup success, community, and marketing.
The organization plans to support developers through training, microgrants, early-stage investment, and market entry assistance. Its scope extends beyond DeFi to include retail applications, AI-powered payments, and non-financial enterprise use cases.
XRP is evolving from payments to credit
The next phase will go beyond ecosystem building. At XRP Seoul 2026, Ripple President Monica Long stated that the company plans to connect the XRP Ledger (XRPL) with payment infrastructure.
She also said, "We are conducting credit-related pilots with the goal of launching next year."
The program involves using pooled XRP as collateral to help fund payments for customers.
This initiative is being advanced following SBI Ripple Asia’s approval as a third-party prepaid payment instrument issuer under Japan’s Payment Services Act, which supports regulated prepaid token activities on the XRPL.
October Core Protocol Upgrade
This regional promotion is also aligned with two planned protocol upgrades: Permission Delegation Infrastructure and Batch Amendment.
First, the Permission Delegation Infrastructure update is scheduled for October 8. It will allow companies to delegate transaction signing without relinquishing control of their main wallet.
Second, the Batch Amendment is scheduled for October 9. It will allow multiple transactions to be grouped and processed as a single ledger entry, helping to improve the speed and efficiency of high-frequency activities.
Both upgrades require support from more than 80% of validators during activation.
