ME News reports that on August 24 (UTC+8), XPeng announced that its robotics division has completed its first round of financing exceeding $900 million, resulting in a post-money valuation surpassing $6.3 billion—setting a new record for the largest single private funding round in China’s embodied AI sector. The round was led by IDG Capital, with strategic investments from Tencent and Alibaba, and participation from Gao榕 Capital, an early investor in Momenta and AgiBot. The funds will be used for robotics hardware and software development, training and optimization of physical AI models, high-quality data collection, end-to-end mass production facility construction, and global expansion. XPeng aims to achieve a monthly production capacity of 1,000 IRON humanoid robots by the end of this year, with initial deployments at its own retail stores and industrial parks, followed by commercial sales and deliveries in both domestic and international markets starting in 2027. CEO He Xiaopeng announced in June that he is personally leading the robotics business, accelerating the transition of humanoid robot development into mass production. Several automakers are now rapidly entering the robotics space, and XPeng’s accumulated expertise in sensors, software, batteries, and supply chain management from its autonomous driving division is regarded as a core competitive advantage. In April, Shanghai-based embodied AI startup TARS Robotics raised over $455 million in its Pre-A round, which was then hailed as the largest single private funding round in China’s embodied AI sector—until XPeng’s robotics division surpassed it with this new record of over $900 million.
