xAI announced it will delete all user data following backlash over Grok Build’s default upload of full Git repositories. The Zero Data Retention (ZDR) team confirmed that no code or logs are stored, and users can disable data retention via CLI using /privacy. Andrew Milich stated that changing privacy settings triggers retroactive deletion of synced data. Elon Musk added that SpaceXAI will fully erase prior data as a precaution. Crypto news highlights the ongoing debate over data privacy in the industry, particularly amid shifting inflation data and rising user concerns.

ChainThink reports that on July 14, xAI responded to the controversy over the upload of the full codebase for Grok Build, stating that teams with Zero Data Retention (ZDR) enabled will not have their code or execution logs saved; this setting also applies to those using Grok Build via API keys.

For users who have not enabled ZDR, xAI states that they can enter /privacy in the CLI to disable data retention, and previously synchronized data will also be deleted.

Andrew Milich, head of Grok Build, said that after modifying privacy settings, the system will retroactively delete synchronized data.

Elon Musk later stated that, as a precaution, SpaceXAI would completely delete all previously uploaded user data, leaving no content behind. However, xAI has still not explained why Grok Build defaults to uploading entire Git repositories.
