X is integrating payment methods for U.S. creators into its own payment system. According to the platform’s announcement, creators will now receive payments through X Money, replacing the previous Stripe-supported payout method. The new system emphasizes instant settlements, eliminating the need to wait until the end of a settlement cycle.
Change payment to instant settlement
Previously, X creators' earnings were typically settled every two weeks and required a minimum threshold of $30 before withdrawal. With the introduction of X Money, creators can now receive payments immediately upon earning, and the platform emphasizes that there are no longer any payout cycles or minimum withdrawal limits.
However, based on the wording of X’s announcement, this adjustment may have eliminated other payment options, meaning U.S. creators may now be required to use X Money exclusively, rather than continuing to use the previous Stripe channel. TechCrunch reported that X has been asked to provide further clarification on this point.
Creator project synchronization adjustment
This payment transition coincides with X’s adjustment of its creator program. As planned, X will cease the Creator Revenue Sharing Program on September 7. The program stopped accepting new members last month.
Creators will transition to the Original Content Rewards Program. Based on the project name and platform description, the new program will place greater emphasis on original content performance rather than continuing the previous revenue-sharing model.
X Money continues to expand its services
X Money began supporting creator payouts earlier this month. This service is part of Musk’s push to transform X into a “super app,” and currently offers features such as debit cards, 3% cashback, instant payments, free withdrawals, and other digital banking services.
However, X Money is not a bank itself; the associated accounts are held by Cross River Bank, which is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in the United States.
X also stated that the creator payout amount will count toward the direct deposit requirement needed for X Money users to qualify for a higher annual percentage yield. According to the official website, X Premium users currently earn an interest rate of 6%, compared to a standard rate of 4%.
For tax purposes, when individual creators receive payments, X will issue a 1099-NEC form; for LLCs, the platform will collect their W-9 information to ensure accurate tax reporting.
